Effective Leadership

The Monumental Purge

With so many people being consumed with the everyday stresses of work and life, trying to get the right balance whilst also trying to do it all, we simply haven’t had the chance, until now, to step back and allow ourselves to take perspective on what we are challenged with and effectively learn how to get through obstacles to overcome them.

Until now, at this point in time, we are re-examining our choices The pandemic forced us to stop, it allowed us the breathing space to question the status quo, to be compliant or to be resistant, to fit in with or to try and stand out. This awareness will allow us to continue to re-evaluate our true needs and challenge what we are being presented with in life. And as a result, we are starting to see people change the direction of their lives because situations have been allowed to reset and reconnect.

There is a saying“the only way through is in” – When you go through a challenge you immerse yourself within it and then learn from it. Looking inside yourself when you go in you go through.

Where We Escape To

It is true that we are in a world today when faced with pain and trauma, we seek escapism and the need to evade these challenges via some form of a numbing agent. This helps us funnel and redirect the negative emotions to help deal with the feelings of fear, pain, anger, disappointment, resentment, rage … albeit through acceptable or unacceptable addictions.

But by avoiding the trauma that has not been looked at from introspective point of view, there is a risk of the negative emotion calcifying in the body at an emotional energetic level, whereby it becomes more difficult to overcome in the future as it develops its own personality ingrained in ones “natural” behaviour.

A Taste Of Our Own Medicine

Despite the resistance, we are learning to become our own leaders, and this is driven by what we call the soul and the original medicine.

As a society we are all here to stand out not to fit in, we’ve all come here with an original medicine and that original medicine is something that makes us unique from one another.

By exploring this notion, we can explore our potential and the three powers of the original medicine.

These three powers are the powers of presence, communication, and position. Whenever we can use these three powers, when we can embody these three powers, we have what’s known as the “big medicine”.

By examining “presence” we simply refer to one showing up or choosing to be present, being visible with a magnetic or charismatic personality. This is then followed by “communication”, by this we mean effective communication. The ability to delay or portray content, timing and context – avoiding poor timing, speaking clearly, using nonabrasive words, appropriate tonality, non-verbal body language… And then finally, is the power of “position”, which is the willingness to take a stand, think about that today, taking a stand for what one believes in, what you stand for and how you stand, “word is bond” as they say.

No Longer Be Guided And Led But Guide And Lead

This all comes down to how we can be effective leaders – someone who demonstrates what they want you to do – they live it and then teach it.
Effective Leadership skills are a process that helps a achieves objectives; essentially transforming how we live and work, but to become an effective leader it takes practice and dedication. It’s a discipline you must keep working at.

What Defines an Effective Leader?

All leaders must excel at personal proficiency. Without the foundation of trust and credibility, you cannot ask others to follow you. No matter who or where they are leading, effective leaders have the following key characteristics in common:

  1. Supports those around them. Great leaders unify and inspire their tribe. Leaders are able to boost morale and know the importance of encouraging ideas, increasing productivity and efficiency, and inspiring others to grow.
  2. Strives for integrity and ethics. Most often, having good ethics and integrity is also about having empathy. Being a good leader seeks to cultivate a positive ethical environment.
  3. Exudes a positive approach to problem-solving. Having the ability to face challenging situations calmly and constructively will not only motivate those around them but also shows strength during a time of difficulty.
  4. Upholds high standards. Good leaders often maintain high standards from a professional and personal position, this becomes a representation of the character and is often linked to leading by example.
  5. Leads through example. By doing as they lead not just by doing, as they say, effective leaders earn the respect of those around them. This is the most effective way to gain admiration but most importantly building the foundation of trust.
  6. Remains highly involved in operations. A good leader listens but a great leader demonstrates a good understanding and personal investment in many different areas, rather than just presiding from their station. A leader who pays attention to the concerns of their tribe can spur greater companionship and boost morale and this solidarity, in turn, could help drive effectiveness and encourage higher efficiency.
  7. Values the strengths of their tribe. Recognising the strengths and contributions of those demonstrates mutual respect. Good leaders work with individuals to show them how they add value and why they matter.

We are all capable of being effective leaders and the real benefits can help motivate and inspire all aspects of life as well as inspiring others. By improving your effective leadership skills with time and by continuously working on yourself as a leader, you will, with time become an effective self-made leader.
